Sports Brief: Development and Final animation

In creating my sports ident for CardiffMet TV I chose to use clips of the students playing sports from the CardiffMet youtube page. I did this to involve the actual students of Cardiff Met sports teams and make it more personal for their channel.I chose to rotoscope the athletes in a sketchlike way to emphasise the school aspect of the channel I also wanted to make sure I didn’t genderise the athletes by keeping the drawing simple., I then also added a simple handwriting technique as the title to also show school-like vibes.
I chose to use three main sports to keep my ident short but various, these sports are Athletics, football and rugby.I chose to take the most well known “moves” from each sport such as a tackle in rugby, a goal kick in football and hurdles and high jump in athletics I did this to easily distinguish the individual sport so that it is recognisable by not only the sports teams but the viewing public also.
The beginning of the Ident is started with a person starting a race by shooting a gun I used this to associate the start of a race with the start of my Ident. The explosion of the gun then reveals the rugby tackle that then turns into a football goal kick. On this scene, I included a Welsh flag because Cardiff Met is in Wales and the teams are representing Wales so I wanted to add welsh culture to my Ident t emphasise this fact I also wanted to show that CardiffMet TV is a local channel produced in Wales. The footballer kicks the ball through the flag, involving the flag in the sport, and shatters the flag which creates a transition to the next scene.
At the end of the Ident, a high jumper jumps over a shooting arrow, the arrow is there to represent the “up the archer” name. after the arrow, the “up the Archer” title shows again a hurdler runs towards a hurdle, as he jumps over the title erases showing the end of the Ident.
Visually I added harsh lines around the athletes in the teams uniform’s colours to again make the Ident personal to the teams and school. For the running rugby players, I used a more halo effect on the lines to show movement. On the football scene, I added grass to represent the football pitch and on the last scene, I added the colour red to the arrow and also gave the end title a red border.
I used aftereffects to then add music to the animation. I chose a slightly dramatic style of music to show the seriousness of the games but I didn’t want to make it too dramatic as the show is quite laid back so I tried to capture both aspects in the music I chose.

FEEDBACK
After feedback from the Cardiff Met sports department, It was decided that I needed to keep my Ident design cohesive throughout the animation as there were some scenes with hard outlines and some with Halo. They preferred the hard-line outline so therefore I will be adding hard lined outlines to all of the athletes throughout the Ident to keep cohesion. It was also mentioned that I could experiment with different backgrounds, I was suggested that I use school-like backgrounds such as writing pad paper and/or different textured paper to keep the backgrounds cohesive with the animation drawing style and the school theme. I want to experiment using different textures for each scene to possibly represent the pitches in which the sports are played on.

Using after effects I added the backgrounds to my animation, I also added a stop motion element by making the last frame of the animation scrunch up and roll away. This is the final animation.
